AS pro-fuel subsidy removal group staged a peaceful protest in Warri in support of President Goodluck Jonathan weekend, a Warri based legal practitioner and constitutional lawyer, Dr. Akpo Mudiaga-Odje has called on the National Assembly to probe all those behind the fuel subsidy crisis.
Akpo, who stated that fuel subsidy was a mystery to him if it ever existed maintained that there was no justifiable reason why the economic burden of subsidising fuel must be transferred to an already battered masses, insisting that the powers that be in the country are the most corrupt.
In a lecture entitled: “Nigeria at 51: Challenges and Prospects,” delivered at the Rainbow Deck Anchor Point, Warri of the National Association of Seadogs to mark their Law Day, Dr. Mudiaga-Odje expressed regrets that the way and manner the country’s anti-corruption chairmen were harassed, hounded and completely humiliated out of office showed that we were not yet prepared to fight corruption to a standstill.
According to him: “In Nigeria, for over 50 years or half a Century, corruption has deflated, deflected, destroyed, dehumanized, depressed, devoured and diminished our people and their environment to a state of pandemic poverty and arrested development” and suggested the way forward to include amongst others the enactment of Laws that will make more severe the punishment for corruption related offences; privatization of failing government institutions and companies and the removal of the word “Force”
