A security man was killed during the attack while prisoners, including their members, were set free.
A spokesman of the group, who is believed to be in the cell of the State Security Service, Abu Qaqa, is from Kogi State.
Qaqa is reported to be an Igala.
The Boko Haram members stormed the prison at about 7pm.
A federal legislator, Hon. Akawu Salihu, confirmed the storming of the prison by the Boko Haram members.
Salihu, representing Kogi/Koton Karfe Federal Constituency, also confirmed the death of the security man.
