Akwa Ibom Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio says the country needs to invest about $150 billion in electricity supply to create the desired impact in the sector.
The governor also traced the insurgence of terrorist groups in the country to ignorance by the perpetrators.
Akpabio who made the remark Thursday when the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major-General Oluwasegun Olayinka Oshinowo paid him a courtesy visit at Governor’s Lodge, Uyo, recounted that God has put the 250 tribes in the country together for a purpose.
The Governor stated that ‘’Nigeria is paying the price of ignorance. If we can educate our youths, 50 per cent of crimes would be reduced. In Akwa Ibom, for instance, we offer free and compulsory education. With education, you can fight crimes’’.
Also, Akpabio on Thursday when the Vice President of Elsewedy Power, Wael Hanndy visited him in Uyo, described Nigeria as a virgin land in electricity supply.
‘’Every home in Nigeria needs electricity. Any investment in the country is in the right direction. The power sector is a market that a serious investor must look into. Take interest in the sector’’, the Governor enjoined.
