Justice Abubakar Talba of Abuja High Court, Gudu District, has directed that the Permanent Secretary in the office of the Head of Civil service of the Federation, Atiku Kigo, and five other civil servants be remanded at Kuje prisons after they were alleged to have diverted the sum of N32.8 Billion from the Police Pension Fund.
The other civil servants being prosecuted alongside Mr. Kigo include, Esai Dangaba, John Yakubu, Veronica Onyegbula, Ahmed Wada and Sani Zira.
The accused are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 16 count criminal charge bordering on conspiracy and diversion of public funds.
All the accused persons pleaded not guilty of the charges preferred against them.
Justice Talba thereafter ordered for them to be taken to Kuje prison and fixed April 3rd for commencement of trial.
All efforts by the accused to be allowed to continue being detained at the EFCC failed as the judge stood his ground saying that the law identifies the prisons as the only place to remand persons under going trial.
