THE Police on Monday killed six suspected armed robbers in a shootout along the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Port Harcourt,the state capital.
Addressing reporters at the Police headquarters, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Benjamin Ugwuegbulem, said the suspects attempted to escape after robbing a middle-aged man of N2.1 million at the Orogbum area of D-Line.
Ugwuegbulem said the police having received a distress call on the incident, swooped into action and blocked all the escape routes in the GRA and D-Line axis.
The PPRO explained that it was during the serious gun battle between the hoodlums and the police, that six of the armed robbers were gunned down while two others escaped with bullet wounds.
Items recovered from the hoodlums included; a Toyota Hiliux van and a Kia Cerato salon car, both bullet-ridden as well as two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, ten rounds of 3.8 mm ammunition and the sum of N500,000.00 believed to be part of the stolen N 2.1 million.
