A former World Heavy weight boxing champion, Evander Holyfield, has disclosed that his organization is establishing a sporting facility in the South-South geopolitical zone to develop boxing talents in the country.
The President of Trans Atlantic Group, North Carolina, USA Mr. Alfred Dixon who stated this when members of the group led by Holyfield paid a courtesy call on Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State in Calabar contended that the facility will create avenue for talented youths to achieve their dreams of becoming world class boxing champions.
Dixon said they were ready to bring their technical expertise to bear with the world heavyweight champion as the main trainer, adding that the programme will expose the state's potentials to compete in national and international competition.
He also said that his team would collaborate with the state to attract visitors for the tourism development initiative of the government as according to him, the state has huge potential which are capable of generating employment opportunities.
He disclosed that he had been to the state two times and was in the right position to convince others willing to visit the state to do so, as it remains one of the safest places in the world.
Welcoming the team, Governor Liyel Imoke lauded the group for choosing to invest in the state to complement its comprehensive sport development programme, adding that government was willing to harness the sporting potentials in the youths and groom them to become world champion
Imoke disclosed that the state was preparing to host the National Sport Festival in 2014, stressing that the mission of the group will further boost its morale in organizing and winning laurels in boxing.
