3 killed as gunmen ambush, attack Plateau villagers

Jos – Three people were killed Friday night when unknown gunmen
reportedly ambushed and attacked five persons near Sho village in
Barkin Ladi, Plateau State.

A statement by the military Special task Force (STF) said in Jos on
Friday that the armed men simply opened fire on their victims, killing
two of them immediately.

`Two others were injured, while the fifth person escaped unhurt.

"Unfortunately, one of the injured died from the gun shot wounds in a
clinic in Barkin-Ladi this morning,'' the statement signed by Capt.
Salisu Mustapha, the STF spokesman, said.

The STF, however, assured Plateau residents of its commitment to a
hitch-free Eid el Fitr celebration, and promised to fish out the
attackers.

The statement warned residents, bent on disrupting the peace, against
such evil as the security were alert and ready to deal with anyone
caught.

On measures toward a peaceful Sallah celebration, Mustapha said that
worshippers had been advised to worship near their residences, while
no bags should be carried to worship places.

"People will only be allowed to carry their praying mats and Quran,''
he said, adding that there would be strict restriction on vehicular
movements to some areas of the state.

He advised people to use "more of their legs'' as parking places had
been strictly earmarked.

The STF spokesman reminded the residents of the ban on motorcycles,
and called for full cooperation with security agencies to rid Plateau
of any violence during and after the Sallah festivity. (NAN)
