Thousands took to the streets in Offa against tribunal’s judgement

There is now tension in Offa, as more than ten thousands protesters
including non politicians took to the streets Wednesday night and
repeatedly Thursday morning against the judgement of the Local
Government Election Petition Tribunal which Wednesday sacked the
chairman, Prince Saheed Popoola, the only Action Congress of
Nigeria(ACN)member among the sixteen councils in the state and ordered
rerun in 90days.

Prince Saheed Popoola speaking with journalists said he was shocked
by the spontaneous reaction of the people of the town across all the
ages particularly those who are not politicians.

He said since they were expressing their feelings about him, he had no
other choice than to join them and ensure that the protest was
peaceful and that nobody damage any property in anger.

The Chairman exuded confidence that anytime the election is conducted
the vast majority of the people of Offa will still vote for him
because they were the ones that asked him to be their chairman in the
first place.

Prince Popoola however cautioned the PDP led government in kwara state
against causing political unrest in Offa by appointing Sole
Administrator to replace him in the local government as he remains
the chairman till the court of appeal decides before the election.

It would be recalled that the Local Government Election Petition
Tribunal kwara state, after long hours wednesday sitting in ilorin
nullified the election victory of Offa local government chairman,
Prince Saheed Popoola, of the Action Congress of Nigeria and ordered
rerun election within the next 90days.
