Odumegwu-Ojukwu: Igbo traders in Lagos opt to close market for funeral

The Amalgamated Traders’ Association Lagos on Wednesday said it was considering closing shops for its members to be a part of the funeral of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
It said it has agreed to work with the National Burial Committee headed by Senator Uche Chukwumereije.
It said the members would not open their shops on Thursday when Odumegwu-Ojukwu's body will arrive in Nigeria.
These decisions were taken after a meeting of the traders in Lagos.
A communiqué by ATAL, signed by Chairman, Chief Anthony Ughagwu, and Secretary, Dominic Aguzue, said: "We have resolved amongst other things to key into the reception and burial arrangements of the National Burial Committee headed by Senator Uche Chukwumereije and other prominent Nigerians to achieve a resounding farewell for the departed leader.
"We in unison, have agreed to as a mark of final respect in Lagos passed a resolution to close all affiliate markets in honour of late Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu on Thursday, February 24 so as to be part of all reception activities to be organised by Lagos State Government at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).
"All affiliate trade groups are to produce over 5,000 customised T-Shirts to be used by all at the TBS during the reception of our leaders at the TBS on same day."
