A NON governmental organization, Stay Alert Human Rights Initiative, (SAHRAI) says it took the campaign against terrorism to Kano with a view to setting a higher agenda against the destructive programme of the Boko Haram sect, adding that there was urgent need to enlighten Nigerians on the dangers of rationalizing terrorism.
In a statement by its public affairs officer, Mr. Pancras Nkoloagu, SAHRAI explained that since the activities of Boko Haram defy any religious or social ideology, men of goodwill should rise up to uphold superior argument of harmonious co-existence against the wanton destruction of lives by the sect.
Nkoloagu contended that a cursory evaluation of the killing spree engineered by the sect shows that neither ethnicity, religion or social status motivate the killings pointing out that it would be defeatist for any individual or group to rationalize the killings with the erstwhile militancy in the Niger Delta which was overtly a protest against environmental degradation and misappropriation of oil revenue.
Part of the statement read: "We at the Stay Alert Human Rights Initiative took the campaign against terrorism to Kano as a way of educating and consoling the residents about the activities of the Boko Haram sect. It is our belief that Boko Haram does not represent the religious or political interest of any ethnic group. However based on the satanic and barbaric slaughter of human beings, we are convinced that all men of goodwill should come together to challenge terrorism.''
