CALABAR—OFFICERS and men of 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Calabar, Cross River State, on Sunday raided the Bakassi resettlement camp at Ekpiri Ebutong in Bakassi Local Government Area of the state and evicted 114 occupants of the camp for alleged security threats.
Addressing newsmen at the 13 Brigade Akim Barracks, Army Public Relations Officer, Captain Joseph James, said the people were evicted for security reasons, adding that they were not supposed to live there.
He said: "I have just called to brief you on the eviction carried out by the officers and men of 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, here in Calabar. The exercise was to evict illegal occupants of the Bakassi resettlement camp, known as the ex-militants camp.
"We worked on information. If a place is not secured and tagged as militant camp, I don't know why they should live there. Staying there might likely constitute threat to the area. They are illegal occupants.
"The number of people raided or evicted from the camp is 114 people both male and female."
