Arewa youths task northern leaders on killings

A COALITION of Arewa youths has expressed concern over what they called lack of unity among the northerners in confronting the insecurity in the region. They, however, pledged support for "a plan by the northern governors to end the menace."

Meanwhile, members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Nigeria (MACBAN) are embarking on a warning strike today following expiration of an ultimatum to President Goodluck Jonathan to "visit and compensate" operators of the destroyed Potiskum Livestock Market (POLM) and the victims of terrorism in Yobe State.

MACBAN members planned to down tolls as some Islamic scholars and faithful in the Nasril-Li-Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) urged Nigerians to jettison the idea that the Boko Haram sect is on a mission to either Islamise Nigeria or forcefully entrench the principle of Sharia in the country.

The group, at the end of a two-day symposium in Lagos at the weekend, "urged the Federal Government, the Christian community and other stakeholders to join hands with the Islamic Ulammars in finding lasting solutions to national challenges such as poverty, hunger, unemployment and especially, the acts of terrorism by Boko Haram, instead of politicising issues." The parley, held in Abuja and Lagos, was organised by NASFAT with the theme "Islam and Peaceful Co-existence in a Contemporary Multi-Religious Society."
