The incident occurred along the ever- busy zoo road, and witnesses say the attackers came on motorcycles.
A witness, who gave his name as Buhari, informed us that the victims were caught unawares, as the attackers arrived on motorcycles from different directions and then started shooting indiscriminately.
"The men came on motorbikes from both sides of the road and started shooting at everybody and many people have been killed. I can tell you that at least five people or more must have been killed,"Buhari said.
The spokesperson of the state command of the Nigerian Police Force, Magaji Musa, confirmed the incident, saying security agencies have cordoned off the area and that investigations have commenced.
Mr. Musa however said no arrest had been made yet.
