The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has condemned the attempt on the lives ofthe Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar GarbaEl-kanemi and the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Zannah Umar, when a 15-year old suicide bomber struck outside the Shehu's palace mosque moments afterthe jumat prayers. Five persons were killedwhile several others, including two soldierswere injured.
Oritsejafor, in a statement, yesterday, commiserated with the government of Borno State and families of those who lost their loved ones in the attack.
Noting that there is a world of difference between Islam and Islamicism, the CAN leader said this is the reason the United States of America must designate the Jama'atu Ahlissunna Lidda Awati Wal-Jihad,meaning 'people committed to the propagation of the prophet's teachings andJihad', popularly known as Boko Haram, as"Foreign Terrorist Organisation".
Oritsejafor urged the Shehu of Borno who, with the deputy governor were the targets of the suicide bomber, not to be deterred by the attack. He implored the Shehu to continue to work for the peace and unity ofNigeria, "the evil machinations of those who masterminded the attack notwithstanding."
He appealed to all Nigerians and indeed those who hold human life sacred , "who are in positions to end this orgy of violenceand blood-letting to team up with the Federal Government in its search for meaning in our national life."
