THE Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is in talks with the United States (U.S.) on how it was able to achieve interline aviation system with her airlines, with a view to replicating same in Nigeria.
Each major carrier has its own ticketing system to keep track of passengers across dozens or hundreds of flights each day. Normally, a ticketing system is not compatible with those of other airlines. While passengers may look at a multi-stop trip as a seamless journey involving several planes, airlines must sometimes negotiate interline agreements to accomplish the task.
The Director General of the NCAA, Dr. Harold Demuren disclosed the talks yesterday when U.S. Assistant Deputy Secretary of State, Susan Mc Dermott, paid him a visit in his office.
According to Demuren, "the airlines are seeing the benefits of interlining; we've started discussions and have reached an advanced stage on why to interline among themselves. I must lament the challenges the passengers are facing when it comes to flying with the domestic carriers. We are talking with U.S. how they've done their own and how we can do this very well".
